iMovie and Final Cut Pro for Streaming (4)

Final Verdict?
So for the streaming media hobbyist or producer, what is the final verdict? It’s hard to beat the simplicity of iMovie. I do not feel that the streaming output options are currently as well rounded as you might find in a product like Avid Cinema. But the interface is very friendly and free is tough to beat.

I’m a little disappointed in Final Cut Pro. I would hope for a more aggressive set of streaming options in such a powerful and costly package. This is a product maturity issue. I’m hopeful that more options will arise as the product ages. I anticipate that a direct link with Media Cleaner Pro will be the first major step in this process. As I write this, Apple has announced the next upgrade to Final Cut Pro. If the rumors are true, I expect they will roll out many more additional video initiatives as well.

But while I am disappointed in the streaming limitations of Final Cut Pro, I love the application itself. It’s hard to describe. As a long time video producer, I find that Final Cut feels like an old friend. Like many upper end video packages, the interface takes some study. But then the editing and effects workflow is very natural. At its base, Apple has a good product. They just need to get it caught up with the needs of the streaming media world.
