Screenblast: An Interactive Entertainment Service (4)
Nathan: Was it difficult to work out the technology for Screenblast?
Mike: Well, Screenblast is an extremely rich service and there are a lot of complex moving pieces. We had a fairly extensive development process where we had created everything together and have now connected storage to client side software applications. Its been a fun road. We have great team here. Various vendors have come in and have assisted us with strategic thinking and implementation. Its been extremely smooth to launch something of this magnitude and were really pleased with where we are. It is the first manifestation of why Sony Pictures Digital was created. There are two reasons for the formation of that division. The first one was to bridge the gap between the content side of Sony and the device side. As an example of that integration, all our audio applications will become embedded on all Vaio computers, so all Vaio users will have Screenblast applications. The second reason was to learn how to tell stories in the digital space. As to what those stories are, we believe that well figure it out over the next few years. We also believe that some aspect of the two way pipe and the nature of the medium is important. Were soliciting the help of the user base and were asking them to come and participate with us as we figure out how to tell stories on the Internet. Additional Notes and Contact Information To access Screenblast, users must have a high-speed connection of 128 KB/second or better. Screenblast is both Windows and Macintosh compatible.
