Screenblast: An Interactive Entertainment Service (3)

“When we give users the software, we give them our video and audio asset packs (what we refer to as our creation packs) that make their stuff better. A video asset pack would be snippets from our films, TV shows, of special effects, car chases, explosions, scenery, aerial shots from a plane, etc.”

Nathan: So you offer stock footage?

Mike: “Yes, we do. Many independent filmmakers need shots that they cannot afford to create, such as a car flying off a cliff and exploding. Luckily, we’ve done it a number of times in our film and TV shows so you don’t have to. We can give those assets to somebody who is making their own film and the quality of the experience and the story that they can tell changes dramatically.”

“The site itself offers 50 MB of storage space which is connected to the software with one-click publishing. It’s a step-by-step process that we’ve automated into your virtual storage space. Then, we offer you a showcase page which is a template to display your multimedia to the world.”

Nathan: Can you create online, or do you actually need to download the software in order to create properly?

Mike: “It depends on the depth of your project as to whether you’ll do it in browser or on the desktop. You can work in browser, online, which is a lower level of creation, but when you get to a greater level of refinement, such as inputting your own video, it’s better to process that locally.”

“We have a file sharing community that enables users to swap project files. So if you’re creating a song and you need a drummer, you can place your song into this exchange. A drummer could download your song, add the drums and send it back to you.”

Nathan: Would people have to pay a fee for this service?

Mike: “That element is actually a part of the free service. You’ve got virtual collaboration going on where people aren’t necessarily paying for services. People could use a PayPal account on the side, but that typically happens outside of our service. Our core offering is a free service, though we will introduce paid elements later in the year.”
