Soundtrack Express: Music for Media (2)

Nathan: What inspired the creation of your company?

Drew: “That came from our CEO (Donald Leka). He’s a classical musician by skill and he also has an MBA in business and marketing. He has always wanted to bring together his two loves, business and music. He created the concept for Soundtrack Express and brought the team together, which led to the development of Soundtrack Express.com. It’s probably the fastest online preview system on the Internet today. No buffering delays, we stream audio, crystal clear, better than anyone else can do it.”

“Our delivery system is recognized by many companies who have approached us because of our technology (developed in-house and is patent pending). It took a year of development to get everything right. It was a difficult process bringing all of it together, but in the end, you see a great website that works better than most for music previewing and has tremendous value to many people in the consumer and professional marketplaces.”

Nathan: How long are your music previews?

Drew: “We have full previews. All you need for a commercial site is a broadband connection. You can preview the full audio track, in CD quality resolution, streaming over the Internet. In time, we will probably come up with a dial-up connection to stream those songs just as clearly. But for now, we're a commercial site. We stream full tracks, along with 30 second and 15 second edits. That is for our video producers and audio visual people, so they will have cuts of music if they don’t want to use a full track.”

Nathan: Was your software built from the ground up or built on other technology?

Drew: “From the ground up. It’s Flash based, so roughly 95 percent of the users can stream the files if they’re on a broadband connection. You don’t have to download any plug-ins or software. All you have to do is click into the Soundtrack Express site if you have Flash (most computers come with Flash these days).”

Nathan: How would an artist go about submitting their music to you?

Drew: “The artist would contact us at our main number on the website (212-699-6450) or by email. We put them in touch with Artist’s Relations and the artist would submit their music to us. From there, it would be reviewed to see if it’s the type and quality of music that we’re looking for. Upon acceptance, we contact the artist and discuss a marketing arrangement.”
